Just to get rid of that long, stupid journal...

Sat Dec 5, 2009, 10:38 AM
  • Mood: Christmas Spirited
  • Reading: A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens
I'm replacing it with this.

No, I'm not active here, not at all. I don't feel like I have to be anymore, and that's a good thing. A great thing, really.

I'm trying to figure things out - I... I don't know what I want anymore. Everything feels sort of hollow. And when life feels hollow, you start to doubt. And doubting can be painful.
I keep writing - and I do love to write. Drawing is up and down, but I'm sketching in my moleskine nearly every day. It's great therapy.

I'm not working much on bigger art pieces - drawing on the computer makes my shoulders hurt terribly in no time. But I am going to make a prize to the winner of Nagareth Dragon Club's Autumn contest. A digital dragon portrait :)

Have a lovely December folks, and a lovely Christmas :)

Just a little question...

What kind of artwork do you wish to see more of from me? Or is there something plain new you'd like to see me try in art? Or is there any special picture theme (like a special creature, composition, landscape, etc) you'd want me to draw more of?
I'd really like to know!

And yeah, I'm still interested in hearing which one(s) of my devations you like the most, if you've got the time.

The reason for why I'd like to know this, is that it's kind of hard for me to know how my artwork is seen from the outside. Some answers would might make it easier for me to understand which paths to follow in my art. Also, it could give me inspiration!

ARTIST'S SPACE - and hey guys, I actually need to fill this, so please don't be shy! I won't bite! ...if you shouldn't happen to be a big, delicious chocolate cookie...

Below there are fifteen spaces for artist's names. The first fourteen people to comment here (and ask for a feature - some want just to comment and not be featured) will get one of the numbers for their name, a short description of their work, and a few choice featured art. When I put your name up here, you have to do one thing: Make one of these journal memes for yourself, with my name in the 1. slot because I made you do this.

1. :iconstormwing93: I met Stormwing at Elfwood a couple of years ago, and she's an awesome person, a great and unique artist and a very good writer too! She draws classical fantasy creatures, like griffins and dragons, and elves, but has her own original - and sometimes very funny - twist to them. She is now working on a very interesting comic project, and everyone should go and take a look at the awesome characters! Some of my favourite artworks by her are: [link] [link] [link] and [link] (that character is just too awesome). Take a look!!!

2. :iconsilverlunamoon: Silje is one of my oldest and best friends. We met irl at school when I was six years old and she was seven, and since that we have been friends. We played games together, played with our stuffed animals (like, a lot), and drew lots and lots of pictures together! Today we're still very good friends, and we like to sit and draw together and talk. She's a wonderful friend. As an artist, Silje likes to draw fantasy creatures she has made up herself, and others, like dragons. She has got very into Sonic lately, and she likes to draw sonic fan-art and her own characters in sonic-style. She also loves photographing. Some of my favourite artworks by her (in her gallery), are: [link] , [link] , [link] , and [link] .

3. :iconmytherea: is a fantasy artist I found through our fellow friend Stormwing93. She works more in the classical fantasy setting, with great dragons with detailed scales and horns, and the lovely long-eared elves. She is very good at cool outfit design for her elves, and seems to be very patient when it comes to details (and that pays off). Some of my favourite artworks from her are: [link] , [link] , [link] and [link] .

4. :iconcherrydchen: Denise is one of my best friends, and she is awesome! Great to talk to, with a rockin' personality! Funny, unique, and a true friend :) She likes to draw, and has started doing it more and more lately. She has her own style and a true inner voice in drawing. She also likes to write and take pictures. Since she is new to dA and only has put up two photographs, I will link to them: [link] and [link] .

BTS, Intuos4 L + art, writing, dA and life!

Sun Oct 11, 2009, 11:10 AM
  • Mood: Tired
  • Reading: a book by Tove Jansson - Late in November
Hehe, I'll try to make it short, ok? I feel a bit groggy, so I want to go to bed soon anyways...

1. Ok; BTS. That's short for Back To School. Oh my, poor me, how will I manage to stay alive until the Christmas holidays?
Guess I'll just have to keep holding on, like Avril sings. And relax. At least try to?

2. Yes, I've got a Intuos 4 in size L(about A4, that is)! It's truly wonderful, I highly recommend it. 'Got' is kinda wrong word, though, 'cause I had to pay for the whole thing myself. The rest of my confirmation money. But I've spent it all very well.
But of course, just when I had got it, I realized that drawing a lot digitally makes me pretty tired, both in my head and in my shoulders. I knew it all would lead to this. I knew, I knew. So there will probably not come that many pieces started from scratch in Photoshop from now on. I'll draw even more traditionally from now on - especially right now. BUT - many of my sketches will need to be coloured and painted over digitally, and that's almost the same - looks the same at least. Just easier and more comfortable for me.

3. Writing's going well! I'm still writing on this other project. By the way, it's called "Mother of Pearl the shiny, and the Ash-gray Sleepwalker". Though it sounds much better in Norwegian, I think. It's very exciting really, 'cause I'm never exactly sure of what's going to happen when I sit down to write. I sortof know where it all leads to, but it's all very "open", if you understand. Having a rather low everyday word-goal works very well to me. I find the flow, I write much more after having reached the goal (and I think that has something to do with the fact that I don't HAVE to) and it feels very good. And even better, I know that when I'm done with this project, I will finally be ready for Cuenaya. It really is wonderful.

4. You have probably noticed my late answers and little activity here at dA, and this will go on, I'm afraid. I won't be here that much now. I'll keep uploading art, but not a very active member, and maybe, not the best dA-friend :/. It just has to be that way now. I will still read all comments, though, answer once in a while, and you should know that I'm deeply grateful for it all.

5. Life - my mood is as usual going up and down, but I'm ok :) I've had a very nice Autumn holiday. I've had a nice time in Odda, and listening to professional Norwegian illustrator-authors and people working with picture books for children at the conference-thing there was very exciting. I know for sure that I want to work as an illustrator and author of children books (among other things, of course) more than ever.
I've started to use my camera a lot again too, and it feels good. I haven't used it that much since summer.

Some nice music:

Holidays :)

Sat Oct 3, 2009, 11:39 AM
  • Mood: Llama
- this will be long, guys, so just read as much as you like...

Yeah, my Autumn holiday is here! Heh, I've been looking forward to this since school start, but now it just feels a little... strange. Anyways, I'm going to Odda tomorrow, where my grandparents live. I'll stay there until Thursday. And at Thursday, me and my dad will probably go and buy a large Wacom Intuos 4! Yayayay :) And yeah, in Odda, there's a big 'book week' or something, with different presentations and workshops and other stuff. And there will be a 4 hour long workshop(or whatever) where some of Norway's greatest illustrators will speak, and I'm going! Even for free, since I'm sortof a student. I'm looking forward to it like a little kid.

Lately, I have been... I a little up:) and down:( and confused :hmm:. Or well, I feel a bit unsure of things, and when school comes together with it and I don't get enough sleep, it can turn out just worse when I try to figure things out. Sortof.
Can I ask you something? Do you have any favourite piece(s) by me? It's not something you have to answer, but I'm very interested in hearing what artworks it is you like the most.
Hmm, you know, the future I've pointed out for myself is indeed a frightening way to go. You know, illustrator, professional artist, author and concept- or toy design and that whole world of that sort of things out there (cause when you're going that directions, you can't really have decided things for sure at 15. You must be careful with 'boxing' yourself too much). I know it probably will be a tough way to go, but it's all I want. Or, of course I'm doubting sometimes, of course. That's the unsureness I'm talking about. Unsureness about if I'll be good enough in time, if I'll have the strength and motivation to work for it and if... if I'll end up happy or not. I guess these thoughts are very normal, but that doesn't make them less frightening. But anyway, sometimes I do feel how much I want this, and its really like a fire burning within. It's winning the game, or game over. And then I don't care what will happen to me.
It's been a while since I posted something I really have put a lot of work into, but now I am working with two bigger portrait pieces - one digital and one pencil.
And about the writing, school doesn't give me too much time or energy, but I have a rule that I should write at least 200 words a day. Yes, it's very little, but after you have written 200 words, it's much easier to write more :)

I think there was something more I had to say, but now I've forgotten... Here's the Artist's Space (pleeeeaaase help me fill it!)!

Almost well again + Artist's space

Fri Sep 4, 2009, 9:39 AM
  • Mood: Optimism
  • Listening to: Enya
...you see, I've probably had the swine flu this week. Of course, it's not as dramatic as the media puts it. Most people just have high fever and such. Gah, I can tell you I did. And it was very boring, and I couldn't sleep well at night. I never do when I'm ill. But mostly it wasn't that bad. It was much worse when I had a really sore throat last year and could barely speak, and not eat at all.
But - I've lost a week of school. And I've mostly been too lazy to do very much homework. I've done some, though. Guess I'll just need to get back on the track again now.

Anyway - I just felt like writing a journal now. I want to thank you for all the lovely comments on my last pieces - all made me very happy.
If there's any of you who are interested in how my writing's going, well, you could say it's not going excactely as planned... But that doesn't need to be a bad thing, does it? To put it short, I was very fed up with Cuenaya, so lately I've just been writing on something entirely different and drawn a lot. But... something made it hard to give up on Cuenaya. And it a couple of days ago, I understood why - and why it hadn't worked out. And I think it is that I hadn't captured the original feeling of the story or Cuenaya or the characters - it all felt false to me. But then, drawing a very different sketch of Shriikhan, I figured out how to get it right. I'm afraid I'll have to rewrite a lot, but I'm taking all this in a calm way now, and I have things to think through before starting. So now I'll relax and keep writing on this different thing, until I'm ready.

Great music - givin' you more!

and here is where is would've posted a link to a song by Sound Horizon, because I love them, but DA destroys the link :( Listen to them anyway!
